• LAVTA / Wheels Transit Board: Attend or speak at public meetings for the Alameda County Mid-Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA) to provide feedback on school bus routes, stop locations, and peak service schedule. Click here for more details.

• Community Task Forces & Meetings: City departments host dedicated public neighborhood workshops (such as the Public Works/Parks community meetings regarding park vector control and pest mitigation) where affected homeowners partner with staff on local solutions. Click here for more details

• Community of Character Collaborative: Youth and community members can engage with this local non-profit committee, which promotes core civic values (such as integrity, responsibility, and compassion) through local events, community initiatives, and character recognition programs. • Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council Projects & Fundraiser: Community members can support arts programs through the Chair-ity event, featuring artist-painted chairs on display at local venues (such as Museum on Main, Town Center Books, and Da Vinci Gallery). • Bike & Pedestrian Master Plan Survey 2 (BPMP 2026):

• Juanita Haugen Memorial Scholarship: High school seniors exhibiting strong civic engagement, community leadership, and character can apply for local scholarships through the Collaborative. Click here for more details

• Community of Character Volunteer & Fundraising Event: The annual Community of Character fundraising barbecue takes place on August 8th. Volunteer involvement supports the Wanita Hogan Scholarships for Character, which are awarded to students across all three local high schools. Click here for more.

• City Council Meetings:
  Open to the public; all are welcome to attend, observe, or participate in public comment.

• Public Comment at City Council:
  Students can speak directly to local officials on issues like parks, schools, safety, or development.

• City Commissions & Advisory boards (Youth & Adult):
  The City of Pleasanton recruits residents for several standing advisory commissions that report directly to the City Council:

  • Pleasanton Youth Commission: Specifically designed for middle school and high school students (9th–12th grades) to serve as a liaison between the youth community and the City Council, advising on teen programming, safety, and local initiatives.

  • Civic Arts Commission: Includes designated seats for adult regular members as well as a dedicated Youth Member position to shape city cultural programs and public arts initiatives.

  • Other Standing Commissions:

    • Parks and Recreation Commission: Advises on community park planning, facilities, and recreational programs.

    • Planning Commission: Focuses on land use, development proposals, and city zoning.

    • Library Commission: Guides public library services, literacy programs, and community resources.

    • Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Trails Committee: Focuses on active transportation, safety, and trail connectivity.
